Parent Cue

Here's What We're Teaching:

Tonight at NYM, we'll be kicking off a new 3-week series that will definitely be outside of the norm. In fact, we anticipate it will be somewhat intense. Our series is call I AM N, and we'll be discussing the reality of how Christians are persecuted around our world today.

We promise not to be grotesque or be unnecessarily violent in how we describe persecution, however we will be addressing the frightening reality of how many people around the world today are giving their life for the cause of Christ.

You might not know that Christianity was the most persecuted religion in the world in 2016. Over 90,000 Christians were killed for their faith last year alone.  That is 246 Christians every day.

Our goal in this series will be to ask 3 crucial questions over the course of the 3 weeks. They are:

  • Do you feel their pain? (Week 1)
  • Will you let them stand alone? (Week 2)
  • Will you follow their example? (Week 3)

The NAME of the series (I am N) comes from a movement started by a group called the Voice of the Martyrs and it is a reference to the persecutions of Christians specifically in modern-day Iraq (You can read about the movement HERE).

Be on the lookout for lots more information about how to get involved and help the persecuted church around the world in the coming weeks. But for tonight, we simply want students to feel something - to join in the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.

Ask This:

  1. Your student might have been somewhat taken aback by tonight. It might be helpful just to ask a general question up front like, "What stood out to you from tonight's talk?"
  2. What does the Bible say about Christians experiencing persecution? (The Bible says that it should be expected... see John 15:18-20)
  3. When you hear stories about persecution around the world, why is it hard to remember that those people are our "brothers and sisters"?
  4. What can we do to remember the pain of those around who are following Jesus, despite how much it costs them?

Keep your eyes peeled for another blog from NYM with an important video announcement coming later tonight!
