Annoucnement: NYM Band Auditions
If you have a student who is interested in using their musical gifts to help lead students in worship, NYM will be having a band audition on January 20 at the Irondequoit campus, from 12 pm - 4 pm.
Our own Matt Snyder will be leading and organizing this audition and we are pumped! Matt has experience leading traveling worship teams and he's been leading worship at NYM since he's been at Northridge!

And now for tonight...
We're Teaching This:
The New Year is full of changes, and for many people, those changes often include physical goals: goals to get in shape, eat better, and maybe even try out a new activity like running (who am I kidding? Who's trying to run in this Rochester winter?).
If you're not familiar with the term "gains," it's simply the idea of growing new muscle. If you saw your friend who used to be kind of skinny, and suddenly he's not-so-skinny, and kind of buff, you could say he's been making gains.
But how do we build muscle in our spiritual lives? How do we get spiritually stronger? How do we take next steps in our relationship with God?
Over the next 3 weeks, we're going to be exploring how Jesus dealt with temptation in Matthew 4 and how his example can help us make some gains in our relationship with God and be ready to fight temptation.
We want students to know that because of Jesus, they can fight and win against temptation by committing God's word to their hearts and memory.
Bottom Line: You can't hide from temptation, but you can be ready for it.
- Was there anything that stuck out to you tonight from the message? What was your favorite part?
- Is it helpful for you to know that everyone faces temptation? Why?
- Do you feel like knowing what the Bible says about something is helpful when temptation arises? Why or why not?
- Did your small group select a verse to memorize over the coming weeks? Is there anyway I can help you to remember it?
Pray for students this week that they would be able to say no to temptation because of God's Word hidden in their hearts, pray for our leaders and they shepherd students to love the Bible, and pray for our communicators to speak from the Bible clearly!
